Into the woods you have to grope, but that’s the way you learn to cope.
Into the woods to find there’s hope of getting through the journey.
Into The Woods musical
How about a wee walk into one of the most enchanting places I’ve discovered recently?
A long and winding path ahead of us, leading among tall twisted trees, in the company of a babbling brook and the fresh scent of wild garlic. Sounds like a pretty nice adventure, doesn’t it?
A little piece of history
The Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill is a nature reserve, located in the southern part of Edinburgh, not very far from the city centre. Its name derives from The Braid estate, which belonged to the de Brad family in the 12th century. The original castle which stood on the estate, was replaced in the 18th century with the house visible in the photo above, known as Hermitage of Braid or Hermitage House. Now the whole area is a public park, gifted to the city in 1937 by the then owner of the land.
The Hermitage of Braid is a truly magical place, which has more in common with a fairytale forest than a city park. That’s why I’ve thought, that folk style would be a perfect match for it. Except for the main road, there is a second little path there, leading along the river and through a small glen. That was the way we decided to choose. Walking there was even more magical thanks to the wild garlic, blooming literally everywhere around! If you’d ever be in Edinburgh, you should see that place (especially since it’s not touristy at all).
