“Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems.”
Rainer Maria Rilke
Spring has come – time of wonders, inspiration and new chances!
If you follow my Instagram, you already know that spring is my favourite time of the year (along with autumn, but more about that another time). I don’t know how it works, but spring always makes me feel so refreshed and happy! It’s like coming back to life after long winter hibernation.
I must say I love literally EVERYTHING about spring, but there are some things, which make that season special to me. So here they are, 10 things I love the most + bunch of photos from this and last year, because spring in Edinburgh looks absolutely amazing! 🙂
1. Longer days
More light, more time – the first sign of spring for me. I’m always so tired after dark winter evenings! Longer and warmer days mean much more time for all activites I love: photography, wanders and being among the nature.
Some magical places from a fairy tale land… I mean, Edinburgh 😉
2. Blooming flowers
No surprise here, I guess! Blossoms are one of those things, which make me instantly and absolutely happy! First snowdrops, shyly tilting their little heads from the forest floor. Then crocuses, dressed in yellow, purple and white. Daffodils, the most cheerful of them all. Gentle magnolias, beautiful tulips, and finally magical cherry blossoms, making everything look like straight from a fairytale (they’re a bit late this year, but at the end of the post you can see some photos of them, taken last year). And that smell all around! Really, spring blossoms are one of the most wonderful things in the world.
Pretty in white and red.
3. Birds singing
Actually in Edinburgh they sing all year long, but somehow their songs are more cheerful at the beginning of spring. Guess they’re as happy as we are, finally saying goodbye to winter!
Love all those colourful flowers!
4. Reading outside & spring picnics
My absolutely favourite activities during warmer days! I love taking a book with me, ordering cofee on the way and then just sitting on the park bench, on the grass or a blanket, immersing myself in reading. Spring picnics are also a great opportunity for that!
Ramsay Gardens surrounded by green and little white beauties. Photos from last year.
5. Spring showers
They’re so refreshing, aren’t they? I also love the smell of the ground and air after the rain. Simply beautiful!
White blossoms always look the most gentle and lovely, don’t you think?
6. Greenery spreading all around
It’s always fascinating to observe all those tiny buds, slowly changing into leaves. Green colour never looks so intense, like during first days of spring 💚
Little wonders, discovered this spring.
7. Spring wanders
While I adore autumn, spring is definietely my favourite time for long walks and little trips. I feel the most active then and I always can’t wait for new discoveries on my way! Besides, spring wanders mean enjoying all those beautiful flowers and taking loads of photos!
Magical view of the Old Town from Princess Street Gardens.
8. Wardrobe changing!
It’s finally time to forget about layers and tuck away all those uncomfortable, thick clothes! Light airy dresses, long skirts, delicate blouses, floral patterns, bright colours and natural fabrics – bring them on! 🙂
Some snaps from a magical forest… or Water of Leith Walkway.
9. More energy and inspiration
Spring = creativity. It seems that ideas just pop into my head along with spring sunshine. And what’s more, I’m actually capable of bringing them to life! It’s definietely the most inspiring, exciting and optimistic season to me.
Spring is everywhere, even in my tea!
10. New beginning!
Spring means returning to life and it’s actually this way for me personally. It’s hard to explain, but I feel almost like “reborn” after deep sleep. It’s the best feeling in the world! Guess I’m ready to bloom along with flowers 😉
My beloved cherry blossoms! Photos taken last year.
How about you, how do you feel during spring and what are your favourite things about that magical season?
